I found this torso mannequin on Craigslist and thought it would be fun to alter. I went to Value Village and bought some old dress patterns, and decoupaged them onto the mannequin. Useless I know, but fun!!

Quilted ruler bag

I LOVE this owl fabric, I have been using it a lot for projects. I made this bag from a Bella Nona Design Studio pattern.

It fits my small cutting mat and all of my rulers, large and small, for carrying to and from classes,s o they don't get ruined.

The pattern had more pockets on the inside, but I chose to put just one...there are 3 on the outside of the bag.

The bottom (red lining) stocking I used texture magic to do the cuff. I quilted it in diaganol directions then applied steam to get the texture......looks good but a lot of work. For the blue one I made a trip to Fabricland this afternoon, to get some faux fur for the cuff. I have been sneezing ever since, but much easier! I also traced the second one adding a half and inch all the way around to make it a bit bigger...They match the tree skirt too!

This project turned out to be a lot harder that I anticipated! I appliqued all of the pieces on, but the stitching around those bats and letters was enough to drive me crazy! A lot of stitches were pulled out in this project, and re-done...I used some red jewel like buttons for the witches shoes to add some bling. I also have some spider buttons to sew on but forgot to do that before I took the pic. The backing fabric is black and white skeleton heads....I just quilted as I did the stitching around each piece.

by Basic Gray is the name of most of the fabrics I picked for this project. I finally got it finished (started it at this time last year!) It took me awhile to hand stitch the binding on, but I love it!

I had a stamp-a-stack for a friend of mine from work at her house, with 5 of her friends. It went well, they were scrapbookers giving card making a try. I kept the cards fairly simple, as we did 3 of each design for a total of 15.. I love the new Merry Christmas post card stamp (the 4th card from the left. Lot's of shimmer spray and glitter, which the picture doesn't capture to well!

Meet Annie....Hoot is not done yet! I was playing with a product that is new to me...texture magic....the second picture shows the "texture". I quilted diamond shape lines on the texture magic and the snail fabric, then steamed with the iron and that cool crinkled look is what I got!

I have a friend who's son has a very special stuffed football. It was recently lost and was very upsetting for all involved for 2 days until he was found! I decided to make a special bag for football to stay in, and be transported in.

Super easy-I just serged the edges, then sewed a seam along the 2 open edges, and folded it down at the top to be able to put a string through it.

We recently held a hockey themed baby shower for a friend from work and this is the "diaper cake" that I made. It also had a hockey themed edible cake to match, but I ordered that from IGA!!

I bought some mini-hockey sticks from Costco to put in the middle, and used my bigshot to cut out the letters and the the stars. To hold all of the diaper layers together I wrapped black cardstock and then tied the blue ribbon around the cardstock. (the diaper layers already had an elastic band holding the diapers in place)

I didn't want to have a bunch of things hanging off of the cake (baby toys etc), I like that it is quite simple.

Sorry the picture is blurry (it was a last minute pic!) It was my older son's 14th birthday yesterday, so Markus (my 4 yr old) and I baked a cake and cupcakes for him. Markus decorated most of the cupcakes all by himself, and a lot of green icing was everywhere!

For the card, I embossed the Extreme Guitar image on top of one of the Extreme Elements stamps and then simply added some punched out stars, some popped up for dimension.

I have no idea what has happened to my blog, I have tried to fix it, but nothing is working. I will have to get a computer genius (Jess!) to help me.

Anyways....it is a dreary rainy day today and I have managed to spend the whole day sewing. I started out sewing the "custom" curtains/blinds for our boat. All of the windows are wierd shapes, so I had to make a pattern for each individual one....total pain in the a**! It got boring after a couple of hours so I decided to try this Amy Butler pattern I bought the other day. I have never done a zipper before so this is my first attempt....it turned out OK, not perfect but pretty good. Now I have yet another useless bag...But it was fun to make!

This has been a work oin progress for a few weeks. Markus wanted a robe, so he picked out some material and I finally finished it today. It was all done except for the cuffs, and he has been wearing it, but I didn't want to get a picture until it was all finished!

I made this cape for my nephew for his birthday. I had to get Markus to model it before I wrapped it up! Of course I have already started on a second one for him, and will likely make a third for my other nephew, the boys LOVE dressing up! I am quite pleased with how it turned out....I used a Quick Sew pattern (though there was nothing quick about it!) I spent a few late nights after getting home from work, but managed to figure it out! It is hard to see in the picture, but there are little ears at the top of the hood...I lined them with interfacing to make them stick up.... I cut out the eyes and then satin stitched around the openings. The whole thing is fully lined (that was the tricky part!) but worth it!

I spent a good part of the day today re-organizing my craft room yet again! I decided that my sewing stuff can't share my craft room space after all, I need the whole room for crafting!
I thought I should make something after all of that....This is Mellow Moss and Kraft. I watercolored the image with white craft ink and mellow moss ink (with my blender pen), added some sparkles in the centers of the flowers, the greeting, the bird (cut out/popped up) and tons of dimensionals...The stamp set is Elements of Style (clear mount).

I know....how many pillowcases do I need??! This was a project at the Serger Club that I go to once a month. We were learning a special decorative stitch called "fagotting" to attatch the batik to the muslin. Then you can add decorative ribbon.... It may come in handy one day!!

PS....the ribbon was not my choice it was all the instructor had!

I am the first to admit I don't love using My Digital Studio, but I did try it again. I am making an invitation for my Gramma's 80th birthday, but I need to be able to e-mail it to the family. I used a 5x7 blank page to do this and then saved it as a jpeg on my laptop. I then transferred to to my mac computer using my stick...saved it to my pictures and tried to attatch it to an e-mail. Seemed to work, only problem is that it is a bit small to read, so I will have to keep working on it!

This is a b-day card for a girlfriend who also loves to craft and scrapbook. I stamped the images in Staz-On ink and then water-colored with SU crayons. The punched flowers are one of the tiny punches (comes in a set of 3) that are in the Summer mini, with some dazzling diamonds glitter in the centers. I also used the tiny tag punch and stamp set to add the hand-crafted tag...

I made this page as a demo for a workshop that I did a few weeks ago. I wanted to show the girls the new paper (right side of pic) in the summer mini catalog....The pattern doesn't appear until you rub/sponge ink onto it, how cool is that?! I was going for a "vitagey" look, so I distressed the scalloped edge, used the very vintage wheel and spritzed the whole page with a smooch spritzer. I will add some journaling on the right hand side eventually!

I was practicing using some decorative stitches with this project. The pattern didn't call for any top stitching or lining for the bag, but I like to line my projects, I think it gives it a nice finished look. I also added the magnetic closure in the middle of the purse.
The second picture shows the stitching I added along the middle of the bag to joint he green fabric. I also top stitched the straps with a reinforcement stitch....I love the colors!

This was a card I made my Mom for Mother's day. I have had the woodgrain background stamp forever and had not yet used it. I stamped it on the white c/s and then layered the old olive c/s over that. The owl was stamped from Fox and friends, cut out and popped up in the "tree". I used the new Smooch Spritz (LOVE these!) and just gave the whole card a squirt. I layered a piece of white c/s on the inside and stamped my greeting.

I made this card last minute for a b-day party my son was attending. I just received the new motorcycle stamp this week, and have been wanting to use it. I stamped the image in Versamark and then embossed it with silver powder. The background was embossed using my big shot and silver shimmer card stock. I decided to use the new Smooch Spray (white) as a last minute detail, as you can see I haven't quite figured out how to get just a little spritz!!! Some linen thread and a star brad finish off the card. The inside was layered with a piece of white card stock with happy Birthday stamped and a picture that my son drew for the b-day boy.

I made this card with my stamp club last month. We used the Sweet Pea designer paper, word window punch and the fox and friends stamp set. The turtle is actually embossed with craft ink and clear powder, and spins across the card when you tilt it....Lot's of dimensionals used!

I am going to a card swap tonight so I had to get some cards made today!!
I used the Vintage Vogue set (surprise!) The flowers are made with the scallop punch, and the Sweet Pea DSP. I sprayed them with shimmer mist and scrunched them up. I also used the vintage wheel for the background on the sahara sand layer. I used versmark so it is difficult to see in the picture!

My girlfriend has this great pattern for boys underwear that I really wanted to try. (I upgraded my sewing machine again and wanted to play!!) I didn't have any stretchy knit type fabric in my stash or ribbing, so I thought why not use an old t-shirt! I got about 4 pairs out of one shirt....I used the ribbing from the neck of the shirt for the waist band and then some stretchy fleece for the legs. My son loves them, even though they look a bit like a santa hat, he gets a kick out of the fact that they were made from daddy's t-shirt!

We went over to our friends Nick and Melissa's for an Oscar night dinner on Sunday. They have just re-built their house and it was our first time seeing it so I wanted to bring a little gift. It was at the last minute I realized that I needed to make something, so I just copied the theme from my first candle and added a friend sentiment. I got the measurements for the candle "box" from Carrie Gaskin....good thing we frequent the same dollar store, so the measurements were perfect for my candle ;) Don't forget that you can click on the pictures to see a closer image!

Bigshot flower

This didn't turn out exactly as I was expecting but I went with it anyway! I cut out a bunch of large and small scallop circles using the scallop circle #2 die with my Bigshot. I tacked them all together with a needle and thread and layered them, adding a cord button on top and some striped grossgrain ribbon to tie the flower on to the package. I attached the cards (Markus made one too) on the bottom...

Coasters

I have made a few different sets of these coasters using various stamp sets, but I have forgotten to take any pictures before giving them away as gifts! So I made myself a few.... I used staz-on ink and let it dry overnight rather than baking them in the oven....seemed to work fine. On these 3-I put a light coat of modge-podge over the top and sides, but on ones I have made in the past I left them uncoated.

I just made these cards quick trying a technique for flowers that was in this month Stampin' Success magazine...It was 3 scalloped circles punched out, spritz with water (I used shimmer mist instead), distress, let dry, cut the top two one petal in and adhere, the put them all together and make a flower! I also tried one (left) with the new flower punch...I love the way it looks!

Candle project...take one!!

I was inspired by Carrie Gaskin to give this a try. I love the look of stamping on candles but did not know the secret of doing it. (Carrie G. hasn't yet shared!) I found some You-Tube videos and gave it a try. I am quite pleased with the result...I used the Baroque Motifs stamp set (which I finally broke down and bought!) Vanilla hodge-podge (that idea I got from Carrie G.), it bends nicely around the candle, and I tied it on with some satin, double sided ribbon in Old olive and very vanilla. Oh- I also added a crystal for some bling....I can't wait to make more of these.

My craft room had to share with my sewing "stuff"! I just couldn't continue to have my sewing room on the kitchen table anymore....although I had cleaned out my hutch and had fabric, and other sewing related things stashed in there! I got a great deal on a sewing desk (Craigslist!), so had to make room. It is still a bit disorganized and will need a few modifications, but there is actually more floor space in there now that one of the big craft tables is gone.
AND....I got rid of at least 1/2 of my stamp sets!!!!!

Yoga Bag

How cute is this? I saw the pattern (Amy Butler) and new I had to make one for my yoga mat!
The fabric is also Amy Butler. The inside is lined with the same fabric as the striped pocket on the outside. I serged the inside seems as well as the bottom and did a decorative stitch on the handle. I don't really care too much for yoga, but I am going to go more just to show off my bag!!

I made this honor of our Gold medal snowboarders! I was going for the red and white with Gold, added a few sparkles for the snow. I also embossed the snowboarder with clear embossing powder.

These are the treat holders I ended up making for Markus' preschool classmates. Not what I had originally planned, but since I left it until the last minute, I had to simplify!
I used the Pillow-box sizzix die to cut out the box with my Big-shot, folded the box up using sticky strip, stuffed it with a few mini hershey bars, and then wrapped the designer paper around the box, tied 1/4" pink grossgrain ribbon around the middle. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, punched out with the modern label punch, and lastly I added a mini-tag handwritten with Markus' name and tied on with linen thread. Oh-I also added some sticles for some last minute bling!

This is one of my favorite pictures of my beautiful boys together. I used the new Vintage Vogue clear-mount set for all of the stamped images, except for the "tiny tag", I can't believe how much I am actually using that punch. I did a 6x6 scrapbook page to hang in my magnetic frame. It could be put into any 6x6 frame and make a great piece for the wall as well.

I decided to use some of the fabric that I am hoarding and make a plastic bag holder. The black satin ribbon that I used for the "hanger" is the new ribbon from SU in the Spring mini...see even usin my ribbon stash ;)

I made this using the new Vintage Vogue clear mount set. I stamped the image twice and cut out the F and mounted it with dimensionals. The background was stamped in Versmark, and I finished with some bashful blue 1" ribbon, and a button tied with linen thread.

I made the "thank-you's" for my son's Batman party with the Cast-a-Spell DSP (SU), and basic black cardstock that I layered using the tag punches. I then punched out the thank-you sentiment using the new Tiny Tag punch. I pierced through all 3 layers and used the black hemp twine to tie it to the chocolate bar.
I also couldn't resist adding a picture the cupcakes that Markus and I decorated for his party!

This started out in my head as a camera bag, which is why I used thick batting....however, the shape was all wrong for my big camera, so I decided to turn it into a scissor/cutter bag for my rotary cutters and scissors. I do have another organizer for them, but this way they are wrapped up tight and away from my busy little boy!

Toddler blanket

I found the little monkey fabric today (I had planned to use something else), but fell in love with the monkeys! The backside is soft minky, nice and cuddly. I am in the works of making one for my son who requested a new soft blanket (if you could see the scraggly, thread-bare blanket he has had since birth that goes everywhere, you would know why he needs a new one!). I think I will make his smaller though. Hopefully it will be ready for his birthday in a few days....fingers crossed!

....I don't mind keeping ugly scrapbook pages that don't turn out so well....but at $23 a metre, I had to un-stitch and figure this out!! Now I have the blue fabric as the lining and quilt batting on BOTH sides! I added some 1" grossgrain SU ribbon as well just to keep the top closed....And luckily my laptop still fits inside even after the alterations!

I am very happy with it, although it didn't get finished in time for Christmas, I am OK with that! The diamonds are only pinned together, but I will get this finished soon....well, before next Christmas for sure!!

This is what I get for sewing without either one of my sewing experts available (Mom or Colleen)!!!
This was supposed to be the flower fabric on the outside, lined with the blue and batting in between....However it ended up being flowers on the front, blue on the back and both layers of batting on the front side!!!! Back to the drawing board...and no more trying to design my own projects, this isn't as easy as paper-crafting!!

Holiday 6x6 Scrapbook

My little guy was very sick on Christmas Day, and was asleep for most of it.....what to do?? I decided to make a mini scrapbook for my 2 nephews to document our trip up Grouse Mountain a few days before. It is pretty simple (remember it was spur of the moment-had to be done by the time we left for dinner at 3!!)
I used a lot of leftovers from a Christmas Simply Scrappin' Kit (SU) fome last year, plus current DSP and punches.

I made these tags for my sister-in-law to put on the gifts for her clients. She is a graphic designer and I used her business card which she of course designed!) and cut out her logo with my SU paper snips. I then cut out the tag using my Big-shot and the Sizzix Two Tags Die which I stamped with Serene Snowflakes and Versa mark, then used one of the Sale-A-Bration sets from last year for the inside, and my SU markers....

I made this tea cozy using my favorite...."Figgy Pudding" by Basic Grey...fabric. I can't get enough of this stuff, needless to say, by next year all of my Christmas "stuff" will be finished in this fabric. I have my tree skirt almost finished, I just need to do the binding....stockings and table runner is cut, but clearly won't be finished by Christmas....next year though*sigh*!!
I used the wide striped ribbon (from the Christmas mini last year) for the ties instead of making the straps. You can't see it, but I did a small zig-zag stitch to attach the ribbon to the fabric....one at the top and one at the bottom. I am going to add elastic to make it scrunch better, but have yet to do that!

I added some of the shimmery chipboard from the holiday mini to my garland. It is wire, so I just wrapped the chipboard with the branches.

.....is finished! I am very happy with it. Some of the squares could have been better placed, but it wasn't as easy as I thought trying to remember that the "bad" side is actually the "good" side!!
Cutting the fringes took a few hours and I am still cleaning up strings, but I love it and it is soooooo cozy!

Chocolate box

I got the dimensions for this box from Angies blog (Chic n scratch). She used ribbon for the handle I thought I would try the wire. The window is made using an acetate sheet and the 1 1/4 circle punch, the box is covered with Holiday Lounge DSP and filled with kisses.

This card didn't work out as I had originally planned, but oh well. I embossed the flower with some shimmery embossing powder, and used the black and white fancy paper from the mini *(I forget the name).

I am so happy to have found this Summer By the Sea set on Craigslist recently, it is perfect for so many things. This is the same image I watercolored a few posts ago, but this time I used the bleaching technique. Super quick and easy!

Reinder Gift Bags

I will be sad when Christmas is over...I have been making cards and doing Christmas projects since September, they are so fun!!
I saw this Reindeer on Angie's blog (Chic n Scratch). She used the Tulipe die for the antlers so her's looks much better, I don't have that one, so I used one of my flower/stems die (sizzix, but not SU) I tried the snowflake punch as well, but this looked better. The box is a 2-4-6-8 box, wheeled with the star wheel. This size was just perfect for holding some yummy Creative Nail Design lotions that I have for little gifts. The wire I found in the "wire" isle at Home Depot and I wrapped it around a pencil to make it curly. I will be making a few more of these before the holiday is done!

Watercoloring

For this card I used the set "Summer By the Sea" (SU retired). I embossed the image and then watercolored using my crayons, pencils, and blender pen (all SU). I added the white organza with a button tied with some linen thread to finish it off.

Pointsetta

I made this card using the 5-petal punch (SU), layered to look like a pointsetta. The greeting is from Sincere Salutations. Quick and easy card to make!

Christmas countdown

This project was so easy...the hardest part was getting that oval on straight (which I clearly failed at!!) This is from SU's Decor Elements line, I cut out cardstock and decorated them with the numbers and different things (ribbons, punches, etc). I didn't want one of those Advent calanders with the chocolate this year because my 3 yr old just wants to open them all at once!
I put velcro dots on the back of the number pieces so they can easily be changed each day.

Rag Quilt Purse

I got the pattern for this purse from Angie over at Chick'n'scratch.com. She has been making a bunch of these purses. The squares are cut out with square scallop die using my Big shot. I then added the batting in between to squares and quilted each square, then sewed it all together. I think it will make a great b-day gift for my favorite little niece. It might be a cute lunch bag too?!

Playing with re-inkers

Not usually colors I use, but I thought I better learn to like the in-colors since I have a ton of paper and ink! I used the medallion background stamp and used the dazzle versamark on the crushed curry layer. Using a baby wipe I squirted the re-inkers Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry, (I also used a tiny bit of Pacific point, but it is barely visable) I inked up my medallioin stamp and stamped it twice on whisper white, then cut out the strip you see.

More BAB (Build A Bear)

This card is for my friend's daughter's birthday (that I designed the invites for). She had a party where she asked that instead of gifts, people make donations to the OWL Wildlife fund. (She turned 9-how unselfish is that??!!) They came and brought some owls and did a presentation.
Anyways, back to the card....I used choc. chip for the base, very vanilla, embossed with the star CB folder, then the BAB with girl accessories. I cut out the owl and put some big glow-in-the-dark googly eyes so it could look like it ws landing on her hand. Inside, I made a little pocket to hold the donation.

Bleaching

I wanted to try "coloring" using bleach, but don't have many watercolor sets. This is a retired set called On Angels Wings. I stamped her in black craft ink and embossed her. Then using my aqua painter (empty) I just dipped in in some bleach and colored the areas I wanted white. Super easy technique but very effective. I also used the sanded stamp in the background

I have recently been inspired to give quilting another attempt and have been sewing up a storm....not leaving me much time for cards!! But I did design these invitations for my friend's daughters' birthday invites this week. I think the colors are fabulous and they turned out so cute. The party is on a ranch with horses so this Wanted set was perfect. On each of the modern labels, she will hand write each childs name.

Ornament punch crazy!

This punch makes Christmas cards so easy! I saw someone do this technique with the movers and shapers die (to overlap them on the card....so I used the ornament punch and cut out overlapping images on the front of the card, then cut out 2 ornaments out of DSP and put them on the inside. I overlapped the wide oval, scallop oval and modern label punches for the greeting and popped it up on dimensionals. I also stamped the front of the card with a snowflake in versa mark.

Pun Fun

I love this set (pun Fun), but I hadn't used it yet. So, since I just got my new Water Color Crayons (SU), I thought I would give watercoloring another try. Coloring with these crayons is really my favorite way to color so far, they blend really nicely. I added some crystal effects on the whale card, to like like water and on his blow spout. Polar Bear

I saw the idea of doing a "white" bear with a snow suit on Splitcoaststampers.com...I tried to fit quite a lot on a small card, but in the end I am ok with the result. You have to click on the pic for the details.....I stamped the Bear's shirt....tied his laces...and i created the toque out of punches....(the trio flower, wide oval and free hand bottom....)
I realized after I uploaded the pic that I forgot to do his mouth in black as I had intended to do, but I wasn't going to fix it!!

Birthday bear

I really thought that I wanted nothing to do with these Build-a-Bear sizzix dies, but I ended up ordering all of them (mainly because I think I own everything else in the catalog!!)
I am really happy with the way she turned out. The base is really rust, and I made her dress out of Bella Rose DSP and old olive accessories. That is a gift bag in her hand that I made using punches, and of course I had to add a little bling to her outfit!

Extreme dirtbike....

This is the b-day card fro my nephew's 5th birthday. I used the Extreme elements for the background on the kraft CS and then embossed in black, the Extreme Dirtbike guy. I used some retired DSP and old olive for the base, and finally stamped the greeting with Wonderful Favorites.

Little Monkies

I had to make 3 kid's birthday cards this weekend and I was having trouble getting creative so this is a very simple layout and I just made 2 of the same! The third one I did do different as he is a big boy (turning 5 years old!) See tomorrows post...
Anyways, back to these cards....I used the Sock Monkey set which I find perfect for kid's cards. I stamped it onto the circle (cut with bigshot) in basic black, then again in black on the DSP (that is choc. chip DSP). I cut out the DSP image and paper pieced the monkey. Added the birthday hat and chipboard which I inked with craft bashful blue ink which I added some dazzling diamonds to, as well as the pompom on the hat. Mounted the circle onto the scallop circle and then glued that with dimensionals to pop it up to the real red base. On the inside I put a piece of whisper white CS and stamped "celebrate" from the Warm Words set.

This is kind of similar to a Christmas layout that I did. I used the Leaves #2 die (sizzix), and cut them out of the DSP then punched a hole and tied them on with gold elastic cord. I used Perfect Plum, and real Red cardstock, and stamped the greeting in plum and used my Soft Suede pen to color the flower (on vanilla CS), then punched it out with the key tab punch and popped it up with dimensionals. Lastly I spritzed the hole card with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and the platinum shimmer paint (from the Christmas mini catalog) that I mixed up in a small spray bottle.
